This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use, disclose and protect personal information received through our website, application forms, social-media accounts, email, messaging platforms and other interactions with Debut Nation.
Our privacy practices are designed having regard to applicable Australian privacy requirements, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles (“APPs”) where they apply to us.
2. Information We May Collect
Depending on how you interact with Debut Nation, we may collect information including your full name and stage/professional name; age and/or date of birth where reasonably required; email address and telephone/mobile number; city, state, country and general location; Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify, Snapchat and other social-media or streaming profiles; biography and information about your background, experience, skills and artistic interests; photographs, headshots, portfolios and promotional images; videos, audition recordings, showreels and performance material; music, demos, audio recordings and links to published or unpublished work; information concerning previous releases, performances and collaborations; information regarding management, representation, record labels or professional affiliations; correspondence and communications with Debut Nation; information submitted through our talent/application forms; information you voluntarily provide during auditions, meetings or interviews; and technical information associated with use of our website, such as IP address, device/browser information, cookies and analytics data where applicable.
We encourage Applicants not to provide sensitive or unnecessary personal information unless specifically requested and reasonably required.
3. How We Collect Information
We may collect information directly from you when you submit an application, contact us, email us, send us material, communicate through social media, attend an audition or otherwise interact with Debut Nation.
We may also review information you have made publicly available through professional websites, social-media profiles, streaming services, published interviews, portfolios and similar public sources.
4. How We Use Your Information
We may use personal information for legitimate activities connected with Debut Nation’s operations, including talent discovery and assessment; maintaining an internal talent database for current and potential future opportunities; communicating with Applicants; matching talent with songs, productions, music videos, collaborations, campaigns, events or other projects; planning, negotiating and administering recordings, productions, collaborations and releases; making appropriate industry introductions; operating and improving our website, systems and services; protecting Debut Nation, Artists and users; investigating misuse; maintaining records; and complying with applicable laws.
We will not sell an Applicant’s personal information as a standalone personal-information database.
5. Your Music, Videos, Photos & Creative Work
Submitting creative material to Debut Nation does not, by itself, transfer ownership or copyright in that material to Debut Nation.
Unless you have entered into a separate written agreement with us, ownership of your original music, lyrics, compositions, recordings, photographs, videos and other creative works remains with the applicable rights holder.
By submitting material to Debut Nation, you give us permission to receive, store, internally reproduce where technically necessary, review and share the material internally or with relevant authorised personnel for the purposes of evaluating your submission and considering potential opportunities.
Submission alone does not grant Debut Nation ownership of your creative work or an unrestricted right to commercially release, sell, distribute or monetise it.
If Debut Nation wishes to commercially use or acquire rights in particular material, the relevant rights should be addressed in a separate written agreement.
6. Sharing Information
We may share relevant information with authorised persons where reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including our employees, directors and officers; authorised representatives and contractors; talent coordinators; producers and production personnel; professional advisers; technology and cloud-service providers; and other persons involved in evaluating or administering an application.
Where appropriate to a genuine opportunity, selected information may also be shared with prospective collaborators, production partners, distributors or other relevant industry participants.
We aim to limit the information disclosed to what is reasonably relevant to the purpose. Your telephone number, email address and other private contact information will not automatically be published simply because you submit an application.
7. International Operations
Debut Nation is incorporated in Australia but operates internationally.
Depending upon our operations, service providers and the opportunity being considered, personal information may be accessed, processed or disclosed outside Australia.
Countries in which recipients are currently likely to be located include Australia, India, Canada, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Information may also be disclosed to recipients in other countries where reasonably required for a particular international project, collaboration or service, subject to applicable legal requirements.
Where applicable Australian privacy law imposes requirements on cross-border disclosure, Debut Nation will take reasonable steps to comply with those requirements.
8. Publicly Available Information
Debut Nation may review publicly available professional information concerning an Artist, including public social-media profiles, music releases, streaming profiles, videos, interviews, portfolios and published material. The availability of information publicly does not mean that Debut Nation treats that information as available for unrestricted use.
9. Storage & Security
Debut Nation takes reasonable steps appropriate to its operations to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Information may be stored electronically through secure business systems, cloud-storage providers, databases and other authorised technology providers. No electronic system or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Where required by applicable law, Debut Nation will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify personal information when it is no longer required, subject to lawful retention requirements.
10. Retention of Talent Applications
Talent discovery is an ongoing activity. An Applicant who is not suitable for a current opportunity may be suitable for a future project. Accordingly, Debut Nation may retain applications and associated material for a reasonable period consistent with our talent-discovery activities, legitimate business requirements and applicable law.
Applicants may contact us to request deletion of their personal information. We will consider such requests in accordance with applicable law and any legitimate legal, contractual, dispute-resolution or record-keeping requirement that requires particular information to be retained.
11. No Guarantee of Selection
Submitting an application to Debut Nation does not guarantee selection, an audition or interview, representation or management, employment or engagement, collaboration, recording of a song, participation in a music video, release or distribution, payment, a record deal, or any other professional opportunity.
Debut Nation may determine which Applicants it wishes to contact or progress, subject to applicable law and any separate contractual obligations.
Submission of an application alone does not create an employment, partnership, joint venture, management, agency, recording or other contractual relationship between the Applicant and Debut Nation.
12. Applicant Responsibilities
By submitting information or material, you confirm to the best of your knowledge that the information you provide is accurate; you have authority to provide the submitted material for evaluation; and you will not knowingly submit material in a manner that infringes another person’s intellectual-property, privacy or other legal rights.
If material involves another creator, performer, photographer, producer or rights holder, you should ensure you have appropriate authority to provide that material for the purposes of your application.
13. Applicants Under 18
Applicants under the age of 18 should involve a parent or legal guardian when submitting personal information or pursuing an opportunity with Debut Nation.
